Flex Period:
The flex period provides an opportunity for curriculum enrichment and support. Flex regularly engages students with inquiry-based projects as an opportunity to enrich and extend the regular classroom experience. Throughout the academic year, flex teachers plan to include relevant skill-based instruction to supplement the core subject areas.
Teachers incorporate projects unique to flex, and they encourage students to suggest and develop their own inquiry subjects. Flex will encourage creativity, teamwork, and individual excellence. Students will gain valuable experience in research, organization, written and oral presentations, and critical thinking. Among the subjects included last year were flight and aerodynamics, buoyancy, Greek and Roman mythology, and astronomy.
The flex class is graded pass/fail. There is no regularly assigned homework, though many students have worked extensively on projects prior to class presentation.
